On a quick trip to London's V&A Museum, I passed this stained glass commissioned by Robert Bell (died 1577). Bell, a one-time thorn in the side of Elizabeth I and Speaker of the House of Commons, was knighted in 1577; but, felled by gaol fever while presiding as a judge, didn’t have much time to enjoy his new status or the stained glass he commissioned for the expansion of his home, Beaupré Hall. All of the heraldry may not be a quick read, but the three bells—which signal Sir Robert’s three marriages—are clear.
