38. Instant Gratification

Decades and decades later, more of the ads in the opening pages of the National Geographic of my month and birth year, foreshadow a few of today's things such as instant gratification (Polaroid, third image down) or virtual traveling (Viewmaster,  fourth image down).

A sidebar in the ad for the Polaroid Land Camera has the heading "See How Simple it is to Use." The sidebar's text crows that there's not even a spool [of film] to thread. Focusing is quick and sure. See the print sixty seconds later. The Polaroid Land Camera—named for its inventor, Dr. Edwin H. Land—is sort of a proto Instagram without the feedback of likes and emojis.
