On the occasion of Lou Danziger's 90th birthday, in The Daily Heller Steven Heller has re"printed a 1998 interview with Danziger. The interview is rich in insights on designing and teaching.* Some of my fave comments are:
Much of the creativity in teaching comes from designing the assignment.
The students are not empty bottles waiting to be filled. They’re full. What is needed is to get the stuff out. An ideal education develops confidence, ego strength and a thirst to discover one’s possibilities. I think a good teacher doesn’t teach but creates an environment or climate where people learn.*I'm not teaching right now, but it's always good to keep a brain in the field.
