Ampersand-errific

Love the use of the & in this art invite for Charles Dunn and Gary Rough. I keep looking at it because it kind of bothers me, and then I love it, and then it bothers me. That's good, right?

It's good to think twice, to be challenged etc (I mean & so on!). The marginalized "&" is a major part of the conceit, but—and for the new year I'll be opinionated—I don't love it.

There's something in there I like, but I'm not sure they hit it all the way. Not to be a gridnik, but does it align with any part of the design? Or not align enough that it looks random? That's where I think it's failing for me.
